Wide Leg Pants with Pockets Sewing Pattern

Cut the front and back pant and the pocket pieces twice, mirroring each side. Omit the flyer on the left-hand pant leg. Mark all the notches. Cut the waistband and the shield.

Sew the darts. Overlock or zigzag the inner seams of the pants and the right-hand seams of the facing and the backing. Fold the shield in half and overlock the raw seams.

Sew the pockets: with the fabric right-side up, stitch the facing on the pouch lining and the backing on the full lining. Stitch the pocket pouch lining to the entry of the front pant with the right side facing. Fold the pocket pouch over, press in place with an iron, and top-stitch the facing. Pin the full lining to the pouch, with the right sides facing, and stitch along the outer seams. Overlock the raw edges. Pin the pocket to the pant and sew along the waistline. 

Stitch the front pant pieces together about 2” (5cm) up from the curve of the crotch ending at the flyer.

Stitch the right side of the zipper to the shield along the overlocked seam. Pin the shield to the left-hand pant with the right sides facing and stitch along the zipper length. Fold the shield over and top-stitch along the center front. Fold the fly at the center, and baste stitch the pants together at the center front. Pin the shield away and stitch the zipper to the fly only. Thread a line along the edges of the fly as a guide and sew the fly to the pant. Unpin the shield and remove the baste stitching.

Sew the back pant pieces together along the center front ending about 2” (5cm) up from the crotch curve. Stitch the front and back pant together along the outer and inner seams. Close the crotch gap. 

Fold the waistband in half and attach it to the pant. Hem the pants, make a buttonhole and attach a button.
