Ruffle & Mesh Midi Skirt Sewing Pattern

Cut the front skirt panel on fold once, and cut the other panels twice, mirroring each side. Cut the ruffles on fold twice, and cut the waistaband on fold once. Use stretchy fabric for the side panels.

Start by sewing the darts on the back skirt panels. Refer to the sewing guide for detailed intructions on stitching the darts. 

Stitch the side front and side back mesh panels together, overlocking or zig-zagging the seams.

Complete the ruffles by folding the hem under twice by ¼” (0.5cm) and stitching. Pin the ruffles to the side seam of the front skirt panel, starting with the small ruffle and layering the larger one on top. Attach the side mesh panels to the skirt front panel, stitching along the side seams and sandwiching the side seams of the ruffle. Repeat the process for the other side seams. Overlock or zig-zag the seams.

Sew a loose stitch along the top edge of the ruffles and pull the string as much as needed so it fits the length of the top edge of the mesh panels. Attach the ruffles to the top edge of the mesh panels. Press flat with an iron.

Make the waistband: if available, iron on interfacing to the wrong side of the waistband. Fold the waistband in half and press. Attach the waistband to the skirt, and sew in an invisible zipper following the detailed instructions in the sewing guide.

Finish by hemming the skirt.
